Dan Moran est un artiste autodidacte du Vermont. Ses dessins au stylo-bille sont apparus dans plusieurs magazines macabres et sur des couvertures de disques métal. Son mort-vivant vous adresse ses meilleurs voeux de fin damnée.

Dan Moran is a self-taught artist established in Vermont. His black ball-point pen works have appeared in dark and horror-themed magazines and as imagery for underground metal bands. In keeping with the spirit of Christmas, this zombie extends to you seasonal dribblings.

Christos Stylos - Monsters International Artist Profile No. 4

Christos Stylos est un artiste établi depuis la fin des années 90 dans son pays natal, la Grèce. Son travail, nourri d'une double formation en arts plastiques et en design, lui a déjà valu quelques prix et son oeuvre d'être diffusée à travers l'Europe. Christos Stylos a peint pour l'exposition M.I. des créatures tirées de la mythologie grecque, dont celle-ci: le Minautore. Moitié homme moitié taureau, le Minautore est une monstrueuse légende de Crète. Enfermé dans un labyrinthe parce qu'il ravageait tout, ne se nourrissant que de chair humaine, le Minautore fut tué par Thésée, ayant été du nombre des jeunes grecs qui en devaient être la proie. À contre-pied des anciennes représentations, où on le voit comme dans la peinture d'Herculanum mort et abattu aux pieds de Thésée, il figure ici dans sa puissante majesté. Se révèle dans sa posture un certain entêtement, propre à l'homme comme au taureau. Chassez le surnaturel, il revient au galop.

Christos Stylos is an established Greek artist. He has garnered international attention, won awards as a visual artist and designer, and been collected accross Europe. For the M.I. exhibition, Christos was inspired to paint monsters from Greek mythology. Meet Minotaur; a monstrous half-man half-bull creature from the Isle of Crete who destroyed everything on his path in a constant search for human flesh. The king had enough and Minotaur was trapped in a labyrinth where, every year, young men and women were sent to satisfy his ferocious hunger. Christos captured the brutish strength of the Minotaur moments before its demise at the hands of the Greek hero Theseus, who took it upon himself to rid the land of its proud beast.

Curious Little Bird - Monsters International Artist Profile No. 3

Curious Little Bird, at the hands of Melanie Audet, is a homegrown monster factory. As part of a special collaboration between Monsters International and Curious Little Bird, a few furry and plush monsters have found their way into our collection for the vernissage and launch of Monsters International. A number of monsters models (including the handsome little follow in the picture above) will be available at Galerie Espace (4844 Boul. St-Laurent, Montreal) from October 26 to November 1.

Une expo pour toute la famille | Monsters Family Programming

Privileged Time in a Gallery for the Entire Family  

Monsters International is keeping little monsters in mind and as a result, we've designed activities especially with young children in mind. We are delighted to introduce Monster International's "First Chills" program. This family programing will take place at the gallery from 2 pm to 4 pm on Thursday October 27, Friday October 28, Sunday October 30 and Monday October 31. As part of this special programing, very well known actor and stand-up comedian Michael Mpambara will be giving a book reading of Max et les maximonstres, French version of Where the Wild Things Are, by Maurice Sendak at 3 pm (October 27, 28, 30 & 31). All are welcome to attend and admission is free. To ensure your comfort, the audience for these readings is limited to 20 children - accompanied by their parents of course. We will function on a first come first served basis. Tell your friends about it and see you there !

Monsters International souhaite partager sa collection de monstres sur papier avec vos petits monstres explorateurs - c'est pourquoi nous avons mis au point la programation familiale "Initiation aux Frissons". Conçue avec les familles en tête, cette programation invite les petits et grands à la galerie en tout temps, et tout particulièrement de 14h à 16h le jeudi le 27 octobre, vendredi le 28 octobre, dimanche le 30 octobre et lundi le 31 octobre.
Nous sommes ravis d'annoncer que le célébre acteur et comédien Michel Mpambara sera des nôtres à 15h (les 27, 28, 30 et 31 octobre) pour faire la lecture aux petits de Max et les maximonstres, version française de Where the Wild Things Are, par Maurice Sendak. L'entrée est gratuite et tous sont la bienvenue. Afin d'assurer votre confort, la taille du public est limitée à 20 enfants (accompagnés de leurs parents biensûr). Premiers arrivés premiers servis. Fredrik Lindberg - Monsters International Artist Profile No. 2

The work of Swedish artist Fredrik Lindberg  is that of uncanny expanses and frozen silences. The eerie stillness of Fredrik's characters and landscapes is as magnetic as it is unsettling. Widely exhibited and very active, Fredrik Lindberg will be showing a signature piece at the upcoming exhibition of Monsters International, from October 26 to November 1. The artist was recently published by Biondi Books and has been awared a number of prizes and grants for his work.

L'univers artistique du Suédois Fredrik Lindberg en est un de grandes étendues désertes et de longs silences glaciaux. L'immobilité inquiétante de ses personnages et paysages est magnétique et parfois même troublante. Artiste actif et très sollicté, Fredrik Lindberg présentera une oeuvre bien représentative de son travail du 26 octobre au 1 novembre à l'exposition de Monsters International. L'artiste fût récemment publié chez les éditions Bondi et s'est vu offrir plusieurs prix et subventions pour son oeuvre artistique.

The response to our call for artwork is astounding. We have already received artwork from Syria, the United Kingdom, the Czech Republic, the United States, Canada, Switzerland and Sweden  by snail-mail, priority post and hand delivery. More pieces are expected from Trinidad and Tobago, Greece, Turkey, Germany and France among others.We're only getting started.

Justin Woo - Monsters International Artist Profile No. 1

Justin Woo, Fosawld Feathertop, ink and watercolour, 7"x 9.5"

Diplomé en illustration et en design, Justin Wayne Woo est un illustrateur professionel de la région de Montréal. Il travaille présentement comme illustrateur pour un éditeur de livres pour enfants et cite comme ces influences visuelles principales la bande dessinée et les romans graphiques. Justin présentera plusieurs oeuvres à l'Internationale de Monstres.

A graduate of Illustration and Design, Justin Wayne Woo is a professional illustrator from the Montreal area. Currently in-house illustrator for a children's book publisher, Justin points to comics and graphic novels as his most important visual influences. Justin will be showing a number of pieces at Monsters International 2011.

Appel de dossiers

PROCÉDURE DE SOUMISSION
 
Oeuvres sur papier seulement (peinture, dessin, encre, collage, etc.). Taille maximale: 21.5 cm x 28 cm, aucune limite sur l'epaisseur.  SVP ni photographie ni oeuvres digitales. Prière de ne pas encadrer vos oeuvres. L'exploration de la thématique des monstres est laissée à la discrétion de l'artiste.  

Les étapes à suivre: 

1. Envoyez-nous vos soumissions d'oeuvres à l'adresse suivante: monstersonpaper@gmail.com. Merci d'inclure dans votre message: le titre, les matériaux, les dimensions. Un lien votre votre portfolio en ligne ne constitute pas une soumission d'oeuvre. Ceci dit, nous seront toujours ravis de visiter votre site web si vous l'indiquez dans votre courriel. Les oeuvres seront continuellement reçues par les commissaires. La date limite de soumission des reproductions d'oeuvres sous format jpeg (à haute résolution) est le 17 octobre (ou plus tôt pour ceux qui envoient leur travail de l'étranger.)

2. Nous vous répondrons. Notre comité de sélection vous informera des oeuvres retenues. Le comité est libre de sélectionner une ou plusieurs oeuvres d'un même artiste. Une fois les oeuvres sélectionnées, l'artiste recevra une confirmation par courriel accompagnée de toutes les informations pertinentes concernant l'envoi des oeuvres et le déroulement de l'exposition. Le dernier délai de réception des oeuvres choisies par les commissaires d'exposition est le 24 octobre   

TARIFS 
Les frais de soumission sont nuls. Nous encourageons les artistes à soumettre plusieurs oeuvres au comité de sélection. Chaque oeuvre sélectionnée sera mise en vente accompagnée de son titre et de son auteur et vendue au prix de $150 afin d'éliminer tout effet de comparaison involontaire. Le cachet de l'artiste équivaut à la moitié du montant perçu et nous encourageons les artistes à nous soumettre plus d'une oeuvre. La moitié restante servira à rembourser les frais de gestion de l'exposition (organisation, location de la galerie, publicité, vernissage, assurance...)

Call for Artwork

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Works on paper only, 8 ½ x 11 inches, maximum size (any thickness). Any medium welcome (paint, drawing, ink, collage, etc.) No photography or digital work this time, thanks. Please submit your work unframed. The interpretation of the theme “Monsters” is entirely up to the artist. Submitted monsters may be fictitious, historical, frightening or endearing. 

Submission process:

1. Submit high-resolution Jpegs of work you’d like to submit to: monstersonpaper@gmail.com. Please include: Title, medium and dimensions. Please do not submit a link to your online portfolio in lieu of artwork. ( We are of course always delighted to check out your work if you include your website link in your email) Submissions are reviewed on an ongoing basis and the deadline for Jpeg submissions is October 17th. For the many who are submitting from overseas, please submit earlier to allow for sufficient mailing time if you are selected.

2. You will hear back from us. Our selection committee will review all works proposed and will chose the works for the exhibition - this might represent all or none of the pieces submitted by the artist. Once the artwork is selected, the artist will receive a confirmation email with all the necessary information for the next step. We must have your artwork in hand by October 24th.

FEES
Submitting artwork is free. We want to encourage all artists to submit multiple works for consideration. All artwork will be on sale, with the title and artist's name clearly marked for each piece. We wish to steer visitors clear from comparison shopping and as such all artwork will be for sale at the same price; $150. The artist will receive half the income of sales and is encouraged to submit a number of works for consideration.The remaining half will go towards space rental, marketing, set up, event organisation and eyeball punch.

L'internationale des monstres a pour ambition de couvrir les murs entiers de la galerie de créatures provenant des quatre coins du globe.  Les oeuvres seront accrochées au mur pendant sept jours. Chaque jour d'exposition offrira l'occasion de nouvelles rencontres sur la thématique des monstres, matin midi et soir. Nos ateliers d'immersion au frisson auront pour gage d'inciter les visiteurs à franchir les portes du mystérieux monde de l'art bominable. Les commissaires d'exposition seront présents chaque jour, de l'ouverture à la fermeture des portes, afin d'assister les clients dans leurs choix éventuels.  L'exposition se tiendra du 26 octobre au 1e novembre à la Galerie Espace, à Montreal.

WELCOME!

This exhibition will be a wall-to-wall Hall of Monsterdom, the objective of which is to cover the gallery walls with monsters from around the globe. The artwork will be up for 7 days. On each day of the show, events will take place morning, afternoon and evening, targeting different audiences and bringing in a constant flow of visitors to the gallery. This engaging exhibition format attracts visitors who don't always feel comfortable in a gallery context and allows them to freak out. The curators will be present all day, each day, to greet people, walk them through the show, and send them out with some art in their hands. The exhibition will be October 26th to November 1st, at Galerie Espace in Montreal.
